Obraz schyłku epoki w powieści Ladislava Fuksa "Vévodkyně a kuchařka"

2016

The subject of the article entitled ‘‘Portrait of the end of an epoch in Ladislav Fuks’ novel Vévodkyně a kuchařka” is the reflection on the last work of the novelist published in 1983. Apart from old age, which is the conference key matter and is considered mainly on the level of literary character (in this case such strategy may be related to arepresentative of an aristocracy prince Leuchtenberg-Aulendorf), the author dedicates majority of attention to metaphorical understanding of this issue. For old age can refer to the decline of the ‘long’ 19th century, and the argumentation for such biological consideration of historic time is provided in the views of an American historian Hayden Whi…

The textual contributions – about an hundred – produced either in the critical editions of the Dracontius’ Orestis tragoedia from 1858 to 1883, or in the works of Rothmaler (1865), L. Müller (1866) and Rossberg (1878 …

History repeating itself: Arnaud's case of pathological déjà vu.

2017

International audience; We present a translation of Arnaud's (1896) case report of Patient Louis, a case he describes as having a pathological form of déjà vu. Louis has the delusional belief that the present moment is a repetition of an exact same previous event. Arnaud's paper is critical for two reasons. Firstly, it is amongst the first articles in the scientific literature to describe the déjà vu experience using the term 'déjà vu'. Secondly, the case report of someone with delusional and persistent déjà vu, anticipates recently reported cases with similar symptoms, which are beginning to gain interest as a particular form of memory disorder. We offer a contemporary analysis of Louis an…

Parental effects on offspring longevity--evidence from 17th to 19th century reproductive histories.

2004

Family studies provide support for a modest genetic influence on offspring life span, although the magnitude of these correlations is small. The study aimed to clarify the relative contributions of parental age at birth and overall parental longevity on offspring lifespan, and to identify the biological and cultural mechanisms.Information was derived from two village genealogies (1650-1927) encompassing 9979 births (5315 males, 4664 females). Data selection was guided by the inclusion of information about parental age at birth and lifespan, offspring lifespan and cohort-specific life expectancy.Parental age at reproduction displayed a negative association with offspring survivability, which …

Timoteo Calvo Ibarra (1799-1879). Un arquitecto valenciano durante el reinado de Isabel II.

2015

In the complex scene of valencian architecture of 19th century, Timoteo Calvo Ibarra should be considered as one of the most representative authors. In his designs and interventions, such as the Literary University, the construction of new Cathedral’s Altarpiece, they are apparent the peculiarities of the first Historicism, coincident with Isabelline period. In this first stage of historicism, the homogeneity and guarantee of good taste that classicism provided was no longer valid as unique option and it will be simultaneous with romantic architecture represented by the first historicist experiences, which will conclude with the burst onto the scene of the eclecticism in the restoration of …

Stan techniczny i wykorzystanie zabudowań po klasztorach skasowanych w guberni wołyńskiej w latach 1832–1853 w świetle raportu wołyńskiego gubernator…

2019

W rzeczywistości przejęte ziemskie dobra klasztorne zasiliły skarb publiczny, a mienie z różnych powodów niezbywalne powiększyło majątek, pozostający w dyspozycji władz gubernialnych oraz Cerkwi prawosławnej. Władze długo nie doceniały znaczenia zabudowań poklasztornych. Dla większości z nich nie znaleziono nowego użytko…
